I keep finding water on the floor of my 1994 Chevy Cavalier! How to fix?

  • I have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier. It is a great car, has only 45000 miles, but when it rains really hard I come out to my car to find a small pool of water on the floor of the front passager seat. A guy told me I have a clogged drain and the water that enters the car isnt draining. How can I fix this?

  • Answer:

There is a drain hole on each side of the window wiper compartment which over a period of time get clogged up from leaves and debris you access it by pulling the grated cover off covering the wiper arms. normally held down by 10mm screws lift it off and take a close hanger or similar wire and poke it down threw the drain holes it will clean out anything blocking them. if you have a sun roof the same applies open it up and look on both sides of the track. If not that than your wind shield seal is leaking

You have a water leak..your not supposed to get any water in your car period...take it ans have it fixed or get someone to spray it with a water hose while your inside and see if you can see where it is leaking.

You need to check for leaks. Water shouldn't be coming into your car in the first place.

Do you have a sun roof? If you have a sun roof that is a notorious leak if you have a leak elsewhere check all your gasket seals (go under a sprinkler ) and look for leaks. If what the guy who told you have a clogged drain is true get a smoking pipe cleaner (narrow bush on a flexible wire rod) and push it through every hole you can find on the doors and sunroof if you have one. Your other problem may be your door gaskets may be nonfunctional. Look at your door gasket seals and look for gaps, rips, tears, etc.

I have a 1994 Olds Achieva and the firewall on mine started to rust through and water draining from the drain holes uner the wipers ran down the firewall and some came in the rusted hole. Put a hose by the grate by the wipers and run the water for a while and see if it comes in. If it does it will run behind the carpet by your feet down to the floor. If that doesn't leak, run water over the bottom of the windshield and then the top to see if the windshield is leaking. If it is rust there isn't much you can do. I took roofing tar and plastered it all over the rusted area and it has been fine.

one other thing it might be is your heater core....
