Where is the voltage regulator located on a 98 lumina?

  • Thought this problem was the alternator or battery but it is the voltage regulator according to auto zone. Now I need to know where it is. I am car stupid but can sure fix your computer.

  • Answer:

The voltage regulator is built into the alternator. Replace the alternator and you fix the problem. Stay away from auto zone, take the car to an auto electrical shop (armature repair shop) to have the system tested and repaired. good luck

Ask your auto parts store to be sure. Most cars from the 80s on have an alternator with an integral voltage regulator. Some are accessible from the outside and easy to replace while some require removal and tear down of the alternator to access the VR.
