2001 Chevy Astro AWD?

I just bought a 2001 Chevy AWD astro van,how do I engage the AWD or is it on automatically?

• I do not have a switch nor a button for AWD. Yet, it feels like a pretty strong engine power. I was wondering if maybe the van is always on AWD or does it come on automatically or am I missing something? It is not a commercial van but, it does have a tow/haul button on the shift handle. Could that be the AWD button as well? I am dumbfounded because I do not have a owners manual. I might be getting anywhere from 15 to 18 city miles on a gallon. I can't quite say because of recent purchase. Non the less, it seems to be burning fuel quickly.Which brings me back to thinking it might be on all the time? Then again I am in Chicago. Somebody please answer my question quickly because our weather forecast is predicting for tonight 5" to 8" of snow! I am going to need the AWD to survive!

  It is always on automatic. When it senses rough roads or wheel spinning it will engage. The tow and haul button on the shift column is only for what it says, "towing and hauling". The MPG you are getting is average for a big city like Chicago. You need not worry if it does snow tonight. The Astro van is die hard and will last forever if it is maintained properly.
