Is a 1986 chevy monte carlo ss a good car to buy?

    I like the style of the monte, if it has a 305, not real bad on gas, but if economy is what you are looking for you might consider something else...not to many people are stealing them these days, parts aren't a high commodity for them yet

I had an 84 M/C SS. I ended up replacing the motor at 173,000 miles. Finally sold it to a good friend when it had 270,000 miles on it. Very reliable, reasonably easy to work on. I used mine as my main mode of transportation - I was a contract courier at the time, driving in the neighborhood of 400 miles per day. It got an average of 24 miles per gallon.

I had an 84, what a blast to drive. If you drive it right its not to bad on gas.

The 86 should be fuel injection, so its not bad on gas... as long as you put a good aftermarket alarm you should be safe

The 86 Monte Carlo would NOT be a fuel injected car unless someone converted it.Good car, fun to drive...but not near as fast as the 78 Plymouth Fury that I had....which blew many 85-86 Monte Carlo's away. Just my two pennies worth. Good luck!

Yes and probably not. not many young people care about older cars like me. Buy it and you wont regret it. cheap to maintain and make powerful

depends on the condition of the car and the miles...the rear frame (what there is of it), usually always go bad...check that....yes it uses a lot of gas and yes people will try and steal it...

I had one with the 305 replaced by a 454. Gas mileage? Try 18 mpg on the highway. Very fun to drive. 14.50 in the 1/4 with a stock motor. (no traction)
