A camaro VS. a Mustang? who wins?

1969 Yenko Camaro vs 1969 boss 429 mustang who would win in a drag?

  • you know (the Yenko Built by Don Yenko) with the 450hp 427 Corvette Inspired Engine while the boss has its 429 which had i believe 375hp obvious the Yenko Camaro Would kill the 69'boss due to the Yenko Camaro Having more Horsepower im more of a Chevy guy anyways i have Camaros the only ford i would ever drive is probably 1967 Shelby GT500 or a New 2007 Shelby GT500 than that the Camaro/Corvette will kill any ford even the Shelby GT500's 67' or 2007since the Z28 and or SS Camaro's are nearly identical to the Corvette in fact the only thing is that GM/Chevy detunes the Camaro so that it is not 100% Corvette if it wasnt for that The Camaro Would be exactly a Corvette base and or Z06 but anyways who would win between a 1969 SYC Yenko Camaro 427 450hp vs a 1969 boss 429 mustang 375hp in a straight drag race?

All i know is what I read in old HotRod Mag., the Shelby Cobra with a 427 Overhead cam motor would do 0-100, back down to zero in 14 sec. The Camaro 427 SS Yenko (1969) would do 10:29 in a 1/4 mi

def. the ford mustang 429, that is my fav. car so it will win

My vote is for the yenko since I own a 69SS camaro and am a chevy fanatic . Ive had my car since 1982 and its fully restored and garaged always . Its white with the double chrome injector hood and all the chrome options for the ss . I will admit my first car was a 69 mustang but it just isn't or wasn't the car my camaro is . you know they say that the camaro is the poor mans corvette well i have 11,000.00 invested in mine . Id rather have my camaro, the only corvette that compares is the 63 split window my dream car.The yenko will definetly run and hide from any ford.

im a GM fan here but im going to answer your question unlike some people here already deciding the outcome because its their faveriote car. the yenko IMO would win because the 427 block it has was pushing more HP then it was rated, and an aluminum block gives it a way better weight advantage then the mustang. the 429 is a step down from the 428, that engine though powerful is considered a bit of a disapointment from the previous years 428 which was way better.

It's a total toss-up. The Boss 429 ran 13.60@106 dead stock. The COPO 9561 Camaro, which is the car that was used for the Yenko SC ran, 13.50sec @ 102mph. You can't really compare horsepower because most manufacturers were sand bagging h.p. ratings in the late 60's. The 1/4 mile e.t. listed for both cars are the original '69 Road & Track test figures. You also have to realize that these cars were trying to hook 450+ h.p. on 7" bias-ply tires, so performance could vary substansially from one pass to the next.

well in reality the yenko made more like 500 horsepower at the flywheel, which turns out to a hell of a lot of power to the wheels. now im not so sure about the boss, but im almost positive the camaro weighs less than the stang. so my bets would go with the camaro.

My head is spinning. I've seen Yenko Nova's run stock and was pretty disappointed. Not sure about the Camaro though. I've seen stock Boss 9's run in the high 13's. Stock that is about as good as they will run. Ok, lets round them up and race them. Ummm... Eldorado....Shelby Cobra's never came with the 427 SOHC. First they came with 260's, then 289's and then 427's. Some actually received 428 motors. And in no way in God's green earth did a Yenko 427 Camaro ever run 10 whatever you said. You have to make big time horsepower for that and you'll definitely need traction devices. Stock no way in the world. All these old muscle car myths are funny. I have had Mopar guys brag about Hemi's running 12's easily and even 11's stock. Funny thing was when we had Mopar day at the track most of the Hemi's ran in the 14 sec zone. A few crept into the 13's. A lot of those cars weren't as fast as everyone thought. Some were definitely quick. The thing is you had so much motor and could easily make the car go faster. I'll tell you which one is worth more. There is a Boss 429 on ebay right now for $295,000!! Hey exesquite or whatever. You obviously don't know anything muscle cars and no less about Boss 429s. Were did you get that 69's Mustangs were the slowest? 69 Might have been the best year for the Mustang. The first full year for the 428 Cobra Jet, Boss 302 and the Boss 429. Actually the early Boss 429 motors (either S or T motors forget which) ran the best. You said unless its a GT500. Well the 69 GT500's were slower than the 67 or 68 models mainly because of the weight. Where did you get that the Mustang had a low end torque advantage? The biggest gripe against the Boss 429 was it's lack of low end grunt. This isn't a 428 we are talking about. I was also making the point with the Hemi's by saying not all these old muscle cars were as quick as we thought, there are a lot of fish stories out there. Everyone thinks just because something has a Hemi in it the car is fast. I've seen plenty of Hemi's run 14's and even 15's.
