Can I create a second filestream container on an existing SQL Server 2008 database without going offline?

Questions relating to beginner sql server and database?

• I am currently enrolled in a college sql class and have a lot of questions that the teacher can not answer immediatly due to it being an online class. here are some of the questions I have 1. It seems that sql server 2008 comes within the visual studio 2010 professional package which I have but seem to be having issues installing sql server is this true or false? 2. Does SQL server 2005 or 2008 have to be installed on a server operating system such as windows server 2k in order to function properly? If so would it fairly simple to install vmware and then install sql server within vmware? any other information that is provided will be highly helpful and valuable to my future success in college. thank you for your time and patience.

  Visual Studio comes with a 'light' version of SQL Server - SQL Server Compact, not the full version. It should be installed when you install Visual Studio. It might be a selectable option or it might be automatic, I don't completely remember. Since you're a student, you can get the full version of SQL Server 2012 from Dreamspark for free (which is run by Microsoft specifically for students), if you're interested. Some versions of SQL Server can only be installed on a Windows Server operating system, but SQL Server Standard edition can be installed on any edition of Windows Vista, 7, Server 2K8, or Server 2K8 R2, but may have additional functionality made available if it is installed on a server. For instance, integration with a Hyper-V environment.
