How do i put a background on GIMP 2.6?

Google Chrome Youtube Channel Background Problem?

So I created this Youtube channel background in GIMP. I used a 2011-2012 non-partner template. After that, I put my background on my channel, but the whole thing did not show up. What's wrong?
