Need some radio installation help?

Do I need to replace my Z4 BMW radio? (please see details!) I need help from any BMW mechanic!?

• This is ridiculous, but I put my mug of coffee on the dashboard. I did this because I had my hands full as I was entering the car. Just as I sat in the driver's seat , the mug slipped and spilled coffee down the front of the radio. The radio still works, the main button to turn it on and off still works, but none of the buttons work. I can still change the channels and volume from the steering wheel, but the buttons don't work. I took it to the shop, they said I need a new radio - 782 dollars. Is there any way to salvage the radio without buying a new one? It still works? I am sick over this. I just put the mug on the dash for 15 seconds, that was one expensive cup of coffee! Please help.

  Hello, my husband is a bmw technician (20+ yrs.) he says that what he would do is this: clean it with clear water and dry it with compressed air. You will need to be able to take the radio out of the car and take it apart, being very careful. Clean it carefully with water only and dry it COMPLETELY (he said the best way is compressed air) DO NOT attempt to put it back together before it is totally dry as this will cause corosion and more problems down the road. If this is something you can do, it's worth a shot; however, if you're not sure you can, don't try. Other than this, the only way to go is to take it in to get it replaced.
