this car is an old car but dont let the age fool you most cars this age have 200k+ miles, this car has 93k the thing is..a week or so ago.. my friend and i were just hanging out and were on the road and we decide to race this car..see how fast it goes. i completely stepped on the pedal and the car went roaring the only problem after that was..that the car started to buffer or jerk a bit everytime i stopped at a stop light and gave it a little acceleration after stopping. that problem last for a week and then just suddenly, today. im driving around with my friends and its raining like crazy and im following my friends and this cars not catching up to them..so i give it a little race and its not picking up the race..i step on it once again and its like its in neutral..the engine roars but the cars not going.. so i slowly just roll the car over to the nearest location and check it.. THE PROBLEM: THE CAR GOES IN REVERSE..BUT WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD. weird eh? im willing to paypal anyone 20 bucks who can help me find out whats gone wrong with the car and what i need to do and maybe why it happened DEAD SERIOUS.

Answer:
for 20 bucks I'll say hello.. Well the raining like crazy thing maybe the trans plug on the side got wet inside. Its actually rare to happen but from what you described I'ed check that first. Maybe in a few hours to days the plug will dry out on its own. Having reverse and no forward gears is not the typical.. But yeah racing that car like that is really hard on them. They really are a sustained high speed car not to be driven like in the move THE TRANSPORTER. For that you need a stick.

Pretty much all that matters is, your tranny is done. This is why you don't abuse an old car, lesson learned the hard way. I don't need 20 bucks to tell you that.

If your transmission is full of fluid, you have burned the clutch pack in at least first gear. Transmission rebuild. It sounds like you were hard enough on the tranny to heat the fluid up to the point of oxidation. When this happens, around 245*f, the hydraulic fluid loses some of it's properties, which will cause rapid wear of the clutch plates. If you have the transmission rebuilt, and plan on driving hard, even if only sporadically, then have a trans cooler installed to prevent overheating of the fluid. Of course there are other reasons for this type of problem, but this is the most common. Sorry 'bout the bad news. I loved my 80's 3.

Your tranny has a dipstick so a quick look at the oil color and smell would tell you if it is toast (which I think it is). The previous answerer is right that the clutch pack is most probably burnt. But the recommendation to install a trans oil cooler is needless since this car already has one. In fact it even has an engine oil cooler in addition to a trans oil cooler. This is just one proof that BMW cars are way ahead of most other cars (usually 5 to 10 years ahead). But it does not mean BMW cars are invincible as you are now experiencing. Exchange your defective tranny for a rebuilt tranny from a supplier that gives a warranty. Although you can have the original tranny repaired since parts are normally available, it is more of a hassle. And keep your $20.00 since you would need it more than I do in the condition your tranny is.
