How can I add an auxillary input to my 02 BMW 325i?

Is a 02 BMW 325i too showoffish for a 17 year old.?

  • Do you guys think that an 8 year old BMW is too much for a 17 year old? For a little perspective I live in a small town where about 40% of the population is below the poverty line and the average household income is about $36000. I've been driving this car ever since I got my license when I turned 16 and I've had many people in local parking lots cuss me out and tell what a terrible person I am for being a teen driving a BMW. At my school the only Other comparable cars are: a 06 Hummer H2, a 07 C-class, and a 00 7-series. I've thought about getting rid of the BMW and getting something else to lose the stuck up rich kid stigma that goes with a BMW in my town, but I love the way the car drives too much to ge rid of it. So, what do you guys think of my situation. Any advice/input would be much appreciated.

  • Answer:

I was a teenager and I drove a BMW to high school as well from the time I got my license. Please don't worry about what other people think. It's our decisions in life that got us to were we are today, and obviously your parents have made some good decisions. There's no reason to be a dick to those people that glare at you, but if it was me I would simply ignore them. Mean or not, what it comes down to is you have something that they wish they could have, and see it as unfair that a 17 year old has something that they probably will never be able to realistically afford. The reason they are in that position is because of the decisions they have made over the course of their lives, and whether because their goals are not high enough, or they are unwilling to follow through on them, they are driving whatever they drive, while you are driving a BMW. Just for perspective: I was born in a third world European country where I grew up. (Average annual income in my country is $8,000 so you get the idea). Right now I am 24 years old. I moved stateside with my family for high school, they moved back, I got married here and stayed. Currently my wife and I are both attending Penn State, both work full time, we have an apartment and we just bought a new car. Considering where I started my life and that anyone simply born in the United States has a leg up on me to begin with, I think I'm doing pretty good for myself.

lol being rich is a good thing be thankful :) in dubai everyone owns a car above the $25,000 and its a rare sight to see anything which is older then 2002. Myself, coming from New Zealand, everyone owned really old cars but now i own a jaguar and a pajero both bought new in 2008, (the jag was about 200,000 which is $70,000 and the pajero was 30,000) and those aren't considered amazing cars here wither, over here a ferrari or lambo is a common sight and i have people in my school like 18year old girls who own a convertible BMW 730LI which is about really expensive. i know others who own mercedes and one guy who even owns a Audi R8 and he's only like 22!

I have a suspicion that its not YOU how is thinking about whether a late model 3 Series is "showoffish". You probably have a classmate who's gotten one and you're a bit bothered by it. You should be, thats a good thing. Because YOU have some kind of better judgement or question why and want answers... luckily I'm here }o) There are two reasons why a 17 even would have a late model BMW: 1 - If I were the parent, my concern is that I would want them to be safe, responsible drivers. BMW's are incredibly well built cars, even older ones are of high quality. The newer ones have safety features that are very impressive and stability at high speeds and brake response, top notch. But I would also have them work a part-time to save up for maintenance and I would NOT get a late model. I would buy them a very stock responsibly owned E36, that's more reasobable. 2 - The other reason is because the parents want their kids to show off and have the money to just buy a car that he/she requested because the child wants to show off. Any late model BMWs are not made for children, teens in general. You need a career to drive it and in maturity. In a way, I wish they would raise the driving age, teens are truly too young to drive responsibly. Maintenance/costs of ownership, are not for a kid with no higher education degree, etc. You may look foolish as a 17 year old driving a late model. A 90's and even older BMW model would be fine, because those are now well within reach, although idiots tend to still be impressed by them. Which brings me to my other point, that people shouldn't cuss anyone out, regardless of how foolish or poser "showoffish" a kid looks like in one. To those that do, its none of your business, keep to your own life. Two negatives. If I see a kid driving one, I think well, spoiled but then I think maybe the parents wanted something safe for the kid and have the money to support it, fair enough, but thats a bit more rare. If you live in such a place, set a goal to leave it one day. Because usually there are people, and this is when you have graduated from college, people tend to want to pull people down when they attain things of quality. They themselves have personal issues or insecurities, NOT that some that own BMW's dont either, I think you find that insecurity in both types, but its just something you need to watch out for. There's a bigger lesson in this somewhere, even a smiling bestfriend can deter you.
