Can't insert the car key?

My key fob not working on my bmw compact e46 and key barrel damaged, so cant get in my car...help please?

    Just one more reason why I think technology has gone too far. Nothing wrong with good old fashioned keys. In fact, I have a spare hidden under the frame of both my automobiles in the event that I lose my keys.

I take it you have no spare, so the news is not good You will have to get a new key ordered from BMW - you just supply chassis number When you get the new key it will have to be programed and to do this you need to get in the car to get the Computer pluged in and to do this you will have to break a window I suggest you get a drivers window from a breakers yard (about £25) put a new battery in key-fob break drivers window then put the key you have in Ign and sw on, you may be lucky and it will reset itself, when you have the drivers door striped to sort the window get a look at the barell linkage

Use your spare fob. If you don't have one it is about time you did and get the lock fixed as this may cost you to get into the car.
