Is it possible to mess up the programming in a universal remote?

Bmw key programming question?

  • Okay so first of all i drive an 01 525i (e39) and my remote does not lock/unlock doors.. it did only once before and never again so ive always locked/unlocked my doors manually.. the problem is now my key takes time to manually open my car somtimes up to 10 tries to get it to unlock but it ALWAYS locks on the first try.. if i try to reprogram my key and it wasnt that will i mess up the programming and not be able to lock/unlock even manually or start my car? or does that not have anything to do? waiting outside my car turning the key like crazy waiting for it to unlock isnt fun at all =/

  • Answer:

If you initialize your key you cant mess anything up as far as the manual locking system. Google bmw key initialization and it will tell you how to do it. Just be sure to have all the doors unlocked and closed. I would recommend getting the manual fixed and if you cant get your key remote working then get a new one. There like $140 or something like that.
