BMW M3 or porsche boxster?? which is a better buy?

Hey! Congrats on being able to pick between two hots cars... BMW is my favorite automaker ... Porsche 2nd. The M3 is an amazing race car & so is the Boxter. ... but, the Boxter is the baby of the Porsche family, & like you said it's not a Carrera. Someday, you will want friends to be in your sweet ride; I'd go for the bimmer. Maybe one day you can have both! BMW's really are fun to drive ... I never get sick of it and am ALWAYS excited to get in it. Good luck in your decision, God Bless!

I totally agree with Drewdude. However if you have that urge, get a 90's E36 BMW like a 325/328 series. M models are exotic cars and aren't for the faint at heart. Insurance and maintnance will kill you and the Porsche Miata- I mean Boxster is the same. Understand that the M3 is on par with the Porsche Carrera. The Boxser is on par with lesser 3 series Bimmers ( it seems that only true BMW fans know that it's spelled "BIMMER").

I think I would take the one with the fewest miles on it and the one which appears to have had the best care, even if it is two years older. Actually, you will have to choose between miles accumulated and cost.

Well, if it was the new BMW M3, you know my answer! ;) But then, Porsches are good too! So keeping in mind your options, go for 2004 Porsche Boxster, if you don't mind it's ultra-curvy looks!

Don't buy the ladies Porsche , please ! If you want a 2 seater get a Z-3 or Z-4 with the larger in-line 6 displacement ,you want be thinking about the boxster anymore

First off, convertibles are the devil's work. Get a hard top. I'll save you the "you're in high school, you're going to kill yourself in a fast car" speech, I'm sure other posters will give that to you. It's spelled "Bimmer" not "Beamer" or "Beemer" or any other way. The e46 M3 is more powerful and faster than a Boxster. The Boxster is a very low end Porsche - it is not powerful or fast. While it may be lighter, it's not light enough to make up for it's lack in horsepower and torque. As a high schooler, I think you will regret buying both of those cars. Cost of insurance and maintenance aside (which will be very high), you'll look like a prick. I had the misfortune of going to a high school full of rich kids - one of them had an M3, and he was a nice guy, but just because he had an M, many people thought of him as a snotty bastard. And since it's your first car, you'll wreck it. If it's your dream car, it'll hurt you to see it get destroyed. I know, I know, "you're a safe driver, and you'll never get in an accident." But face it, you're leaving school the same time that all the other inexperienced high schoolers with power trips are, and if you don't run into one of them, they'll run into you. Personally, I'd get a mid to late 90's 3 series. Get used to driving, get out of high school. Then get yourself that M if you still want it. A BMW Motorsport car does not make a good first car, nor does a Porsche. They are too ritzy and powerful for someone as unexperienced as yourself. When I was in high school, I bought myself an early 80's 3-series and built it up, and now it's faster than that M3 of yours will be. It was extremely fun, and I learned a lot about how cars work through the process. Probably cost less than your car, as well. Have you considered doing something like that? You'd get a lot more out of it. Regardless, never EVER buy a convertible.

BMW M3 .. !! man ... whats the Boxter ??? if you were talking about a Carrera .. then you have the right to get confused .. maybe if you were talking about the Boxter S ... then theres MAYBE a chance to think between them .. but a Normal Boxter ?? no way ... man its a watse of money .. go for the M3 .. your talking about the top series of the BMW .. M Power ... !! and the Boxter .. is the lowest in the Porsche Brand .. !!!!! NO WAY TO COMPARE !!! Boxster or Boxster S? I would get the Boxster S. The BMW M3 is faster and more practical. The weight differenc is not that much because the BMW does not have heavy suspension systems and luxury features. While the Porsche Boxster S has a smoother ride and more luxury features and amentities. This makes the weight of the cars similar. The BMW M3 is limited to a top speed of 155mph, but goes to 165mph without the limiter. The Porsche Boxster S has a top speed of 167mph and has no limiter. The BMW accelerates faster. 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds compared to 5.2 seconds for the Boxster S. The Boxster S also has better weight distrbution because it is a mid-engined car so it handles better. Porsche is a more popular brand than BMW when it comes to sportscars. I have driven many BMW 3 series car except the M3 and I drove a 1998 Porsche Boxster. It was the most fun car I have driven.
