Which car is better, a BMW or Mercedes benz?
-
My Cousin is turning 18 soon and his mom is going to get him either a BMW or Mercedez?! WTF he is a spoiled .... Anyways he told me that he hates BMW and that annoyed me because he never even drove one and he said that Mercedes is a lot better than BMW. My parents personly own both a BMW and a Mercedes and honestly I really think that the BMW is way better than the Mercedes. Please share your opinions!

Well first off, he needs to take a trip to the dealerships and drive each vehicle. Making a decision randomly without driving the cars, is pretty stupid. The kind of stupidity you should expect from an immature 18 year old who certainly should not be driving either vehicle until he earns the money to buy one himself. But the fact is, Mercedes is clearly aimed at the older market. I was in a Benz showroom the other day, and sat in the new '09 C class. It is a nice car, no question about that, but it is still and old mans car. And I have more than 10 years on your cousin. I think unless you are talking about a $50K+ tricked out AMG Mercedes, it is a very boring choice for a teen. BMW is not only vastly more fun to drive, but the new 3 series for '09 is really good looking. Also consider the free maintenance, and in any decent reliability review BMW beats Mercedes these days. Consumer Reports consistently ranks BMW higher. Anyone that tells your Mecedes builds a more reliable car is in a time warp. This may have been true 20-30 years ago. But today Mercedes is still struggling to catch BMW or the Japanese manufacturers. If he were my son he would be choosing between a Nissan Altima, or a Honda Accord. Giving a luxury vehicle to an immature inexperienced new driver, is completely irresponsible and stupid.

Bimmer is so wrong- which is odd since his name is "Bimmer." That was the list of 20 years ago. while I'm not a Chris Bangle design fan, I do know that BMW is at the top of that list now. Mercedes actually ranks last place now in reliability. I believe it too. From the experiences that my family and friends with newer Mercedes have had, they aren't the reliable cars they used to be. Ask a Mercedes roadside assistant person about the quality. I've asked six from six different dealers. They all have the same story. By the way, Audi has never been tops. Audis are posh VWs. Audi A4= VW Jetta Audi A6= VW Passat Audi TT is based on the A4, so it's a Jetta/Golf/Beetle/Eos also. No need getting mad because they are all the same car. The A8 is in a different class, but it's still behind the S-Class and 7 Series BMW in overall luxury and build quality.

BMW's line of cars are lacking style these days. Tell him to get an Audi instead.

Well, to be honest you really have to explain what you define as better... if you're not speaking purely of performance, its pretty much a case of "what car do i think is prettiest and most comfortable". if you can purchase these vehicles then you can certainly afford their upkeep, regardless of their reliability. also, for those of you who consider audis to be posh vdubs, please do your reasearch. they ARE based on the same chassis and have similarly designed interiors, but that is where the similarities stop. in terms of performance, most audi engines are not available in a volkswagen, and when audi was making the 2.7t S4 the car was dominating the sport department. sure, it is shy around newer cars, but you throw 2 KO4's in there and you will be stomping all over almost every new car available with 500+ wheel. as far as equations go, this might be found interesting- 1989-1995 Nissan SKYLINE = 1989-1995 Nissan 240sx (yeah, the ones you see on the street every now and then. I'd say they're quite different.)

Well it depends on what you want Mercedes are more for luxury and style and Bmw is more for flashyness and performance. I have a Bmw but it really depends on you personality

As to quality reliability they are both the same in my book. So you just make your decision going with looks toys and power.
