What happens when you press emergency call on Iphone?

So I was unlocking my phone and I went to press the 7 and I hit emergency call. I pressed the end button so fast I didn't even see what else was on the screen. Does it call the police or what happens?!

It brings you to a keypad were you can type in a number if you need help ASAP. It doesn't call 911 or something like that

On some phones it actually calls the police.on others it simply allows you to dial emergence number:*911* without having to enter the unlock code for easy and quick dialing in an emergency situation.
