How do I get rid of subwoofer fuse?

Can I replace my Audi A3 factory subwoofer with a different woofer for better sound?

  • Just discovered that my Audi A3 has a factory fit subwoofer in the boot. It is stealth mounted into the boot wall. I want to change it as it appears to be made of cheap paper and rattles easily. I don't play my music loud but I think as I brought the car used it must have seen its days by someone who liked thumping music. Consequently the woofer may also be damaged. What ohms/rms/watts could I get away with as a premium replacement? I don't want to add an additional amp as this would mean running power cable, 40A fuse and a wiring harness to the Concert Radio. Thanks

  • Answer:

It is quite difficult to damage a speaker except by physical damage or an over powerful amp. If it sounds bad then its more likely due to something loose that is causing vibration so replacing it may not solve the problem. Nothing wrong with paper speaker diaphragms either they work great. Check the current speaker mountings are secure and that there is nothing else resonating that may be the cause before you replace it else could be money down the drain.
