How does buying app on itunes work?

So I have an iPhone and an iTouch but I've never bought any apps. I've only installed free ones. If I were to buy an app, how does it work? Like, do I pay that app that cost $1.99 every month or just pay once? and if I were to delete that app, will I get my money back ?
Answer:

one time fee and if you were to delete that app from your device it would back up on your computer there's no way to get your money back unless yu go to apple support kind of a little tip try to find a lite version of the app before you buy it

Apps are one time fees, and if you delete it you still have it on your itunes just not the iphone or ipod touch, and you will not get your money back.

You pay it once and unfortunately your money is non refundable :(
