What if LCD has sound but no picture?

Samsung 55" LCD tv no picture, sound or Samsung jingle.?

  • I have a Samsung 55" LCD I'm not getting picture or sound. The led on the bottom comes on than when I power on it shuts off. The Samsung jingle isn't heard and no picture or sound. Any help would b greatly appreciated

  • Answer:

A few Samsung LCD TVs and digital tuners have a power supply problem. Apparently one of Samsung's parts suppliers provided a batch of out of spec electrolytic capacitors that eventually go bad and blow out. When you hit the power button, the led lights up for a second or two and shuts off. If you are handy with a soldering iron and comfortable working on your own stuff, you can fix it your self for around 5 bucks. The damaged capacitor will be bulging . I fixed my Samsung digital receiver which had the same problem several months ago by replacing the bad part with one from the local Radio shack store. The replacement one had the same capacitance, but a much higher voltage rating. I don't recall what the capacitance value was, and even though the replacement was a bit bulkier than the original, it still fit and the receiver has worked fine ever since.

Samsung is still fixing tvs with capacitor failure for free, out of warranty. Call their customer service with the serial number off the side of your tv. If it's one of the affected ones they will send a repair person to your house for free.
