What kind of spider was it?

Does anyone know what kind of spider this is?

  • I live in Lebanon, Oregon. My apartment building apparently has a lot of spiders; the other tenants call it "Spider View". I have been bitten by one and didn't suffer many ill effects from it, just a headache and some stiffness of the muscles, but I don't know what kind of spider it was. However, my neighbor says she has seen a large spider that is beige all over and has red spots on it. She hasn't been able to figure out what sort of spider this is, and I also do not know. This is the spider I would like help identifying, if at all possible. Thanks, Constantine

the guy above is rather off, i think, unless he was referring to a male black widow, rather than the much more common females who are black with a red hour glass shape. male black widows look like this: http://www.deviantart.com/download/143532891/MALE_BLACK_WIDOW_by_Sandy33311.jpg if not, then perhaps you could describe it more thoroughly? is it furry? does it have striped legs? what sort of pattern are the dots in? how big is it? if you see it again, catch it in a jar and take some pictures(theres almost no risk of being bitten when doing this if you are careful... unless you are getting it off the ceiling i guess) EDIT: i think i just figured it out, actually... so i came back. have a look: http://bugguide.net/images/raw/BHXH1HPH3H2HBZGLLR2HWZILLR6HBH2H9ZHLCHMHEZMHPZ8LBZXLWZWHLR8LUZHL4ZMHCHKL4ZQL.jpg tis called a pirate spider.

Hmm mouse spider maybe?..I just typed in beige spider with red dots but no match so closest thing, but come to think of it it could be a black widow? Hope I helped! :)

Headache and stiffness is not typical of common spider bites. Itchy welts and minor swelling are the norm. Your spider may be a spotted orb weaver if this was found outdoors in a web,and a bite from one of these would really be insignificant. Perhaps if a photo could be posted on a hosting site like Flickr, and a link provided, your little friend could be identified. PS; Having lived in Corvallis, except for the widows, all the other spiders are really quite harmless.
