How do i start an animal rescue?

• I am an Animal Science major, minoring in genetics, pre-vet, and i am extremely passionate about Sloths, three toed in particular. I live in the United States and there isn't a rescue for sloths anywhere in the midwest (or in the US for that matter) that i could find. I understand that this is a huge undertaking, with many steps, and an enourmous responsibilty to go after with no gurantee of sucess. I am doing more formal research, but would just like to hear some ideas on opening a wildlife rescue. Thank you

  Hah, I'm pretty sure there isn't a rescue out there, because there aren't enough to Need a rescue for one. But, if you wanted to start one, I think all you'd have to do is get proper licensing to open your own wild-life rescue (there are some permits you have to get.) ...I think I'd suggest contacting your local DNR (or some equivalent), and they should be able to guide you. Then just be on the look-out for people who can't take care of their "pets" anymore, and need to re-home them...or you can let the area around you know that you exist if by any chance they find an injured sloth on the ground? Hah, I'm not quite sure. But the most likely instance is that people would try to obtain one as a pet, but I think that's actually illegal in most states- but it may be allowed for sale Inside of one's state..so, you could take those in, and possibly try to find new homes for them, or care for them, whatever you want to do. And as your name gets spread around, if other people need help with their animals or other wild animals found, they'll probably come to you for help. I honestly don't know what you're asking, sorry. But, laws, I think I covered to the best of my ability (I'm not one to tell people what the law is [if I'm not 100% sure.]) , and then to open one, I think you can just start one in your home, taking in rescued animals, and then maybe if you get enough volunteers or such to help you- you may be able to start your own facility near-by?
