How do you become an expert on a certain animal?

I am curious as to how people become an expert on a certain animal. Specifically, I want to be an expert on red foxes. Anyone have any ideas? Preferably someone who is an expert on an animal.

Study, study, study. You can't rely on the internet; there is too much horse manure masquerading as fact floating around there. Books are slightly better. At least they have gotten past an editor or two. What you really want to do is get into the scientific literature, which, in a refereed journal, has run the gamut of reviewers and editors. After you think that you are an expert, start doing research on the animal; then, you will realize how little you really know.

Well you have to study about Red Foxes in order to become an expert on them First. You have to study their eating habits, their habitats, their traits (any special traits about them?), and simply dedicate yourself to understanding the Red Fox. As i did with the almost extinct Hefffalumps and the Woozles. They are very complex animals but i dedicated my whole life to understanding their ways of life in order to be able to educate other people about them.
