We know that fish are attracted to flies, but why are flies attracted to fish?
-
We normally eat out of doors and have discovered that we can enjoy our meal in peace and quiet while we stick to other foods, but that as soon as fish is on the menu we are assailed by flies which seem to appear from nowhere. There must be something about fish which particularly attracts them. They are irresistibly attracted by fish in the raw state and the cooked state. Does anyone know why?

Answer:
flies are attracetd to any food, its thier nature to feast on whatevers avaliable, including faeces eurgh! i am not sure that they are particularly partial to dead fish, as to whether flies are attracted to fish in the live "raw" state as you put it this can be explainec by the fact that many flies use water as a nursery for thier larvae and as a result live near water, fish also live in the water which is handy fro them as they can then feast on the flies. its not an atraction to fish. however it would be ointeresting from what you say to anylyse the odour from cooked fish and record the numbers of flies attracted to fish as opposed to ther foods and see if there is some chmical compoment of fish smell that send flires wild, i can see no real use for this data but it would as i say be an interestin way to pass some time. in the meantime invest in some citronella candles and eat plenty of delicous garlic, to keep the disease ridden little monsters away from your food!

Flies are attracted to odours and cooked fish as well as dead and decaying fish have peculiar odours felt more by flies than by us. It attracts them as potential food, substrate for laying eggs, for maggots to develop, etc.
