How long does it take to become a sports scientist?

What courses in college/university will i need to take to become a zoologist/animal scientist?

  • does anyone know the requirements to become a zoologist/animal scientist?

  • Answer:

If you want to work as a zoologist, you are generally recommended to obtain at least an MSc (1 year in the UK, 2 in the US), if not a PhD (4+ years) after getting a BSc (3 years in the UK, 4 in the US). What you do at undergraduate level does not matter as much if you pursue a postgraduate degree, but generally courses as -of courese- zoology, animal science, wildlife management or marine science (if you are more interested in marine animals) are the typical choice. It's not just about the education though, Zoology is very competitive so you should think early about gaining experience; volunteering or interning at relevant places greatly increase your chances; aquariums, natural history museums, zoos, summer camps, work experience in National Parks any experience is good experience. AS I said, what and where you do your undergraduate really does not matter as long as it will get you onto a postgraduate course of your choice but if you are looking at just doing a BSc I've heard good things about Texas A&M. All careers working with animals are competitive and pay poorly so be prepared to put in a good amount of time doing unpaid work experience and don't expect a well paying job straight out of university. You will need a lot of determination and motivation to persevere.

As an undergraduate: General biology, botany, zoology, physiology, genetics, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, calculus. But a bachelor's degree won't make you a zoologist. You really need a Ph.D.
