Where can i find a good list of species that have gone extinct due to over hunting in the last 1000 years?

• So I'm in 11th grade and in my English class my teacher is having us each choose a topic of current debate, whether it be political, moral, ect. And then we have to write a 5 page paper and make a speech plus visual aids. I choose hunting as my topic and I am personally against hunting for sport. I started my project by going to animal planet.com and running down a list of endangered animals they had available in order to get a list of the animals there whose main threat is due to over hunting and some pictures to go with them. as well as a list of animals that are facing extinction due to lose of pray species because of the over hunting of there food source, this also serves to show that over hunting is a global issue and that you would be hard put to find a place that is currently inhabited by humans, that does not have at least one animal on the endangered species list. I also have printed out a list of animals that are currently on the endangered species list but what i would also like is to find a site that can give me a list of animals that have gone extinct and/or extinct in the wild over the last 1000 years. Also if there are any sites with some horror stories about hunting (The horror from the animals point of view like the baby fur seals that they club to death for their coats because they don't to ruin the coat by shooting it and putting a bullet hole through the fur) then it would be really helpful because in this speech we are trying to convince the class of our point of view and i live in South Carolina so some heart-wrenching stories would be really useful to convince the class. Oh and one more thing i realize that habitat loss has been the main cause for the extinction and endangerment of species, that however, is not my essay topic and therefore mentioning that would take away from the persuasiveness of my speech, besides i plan on using that as my subject for my next speech in my creative writing class.

  you won't. it has never happened. hunters do more to protect game species than all the peta do-gooders. have you ever bought a duck stamp which goes to wetlands restoration projects? have you ever helped to restore a stream just so some little minnow will have a place to spawn and multiply? there are more turkeys in the woods now than there were 1000 years ago. l wonder who put them there. l could go on and on. hunters and fishermen do more to protect game than ANYONE else. where do you think all our license fees go? do we want to kill everything so next year we will have nothing to look for? that is definitely NOT in our best interest and NOT on our agenda. when we hunt game species through selective harvest and proper game management, we also protect other non-game wildlife. they ALL benefit. habitat loss should be the MAIN topic of your speech. that is the biggest problem for all animal life, worldwide. PS: the harp seals are not extinct and that is not done by sport hunters, anyway. that is a commercial venture just like raising rabbits or chinchillas for furs. that is the way those people have lived for thousands of years. you want to take away their lifestyle? how about the eskimos or hunter gatherers in undeveloped countries? but this is all for nothing. l can see they got to you at an early age and brainwashed you. hunting and fishing are human natural instincts. been bred out of all the bleeding hearts and now they take their show on the road and preach their garbage to impressionable young minds.
