Why are bees disappearing across America so fast?

Bees disappearing and what I can do about it?

  • For my first university paper I wrote about the bees disappearing (pollution, habitat loss, CCD, etc) (An A+ paper btw :P). I love bees, I think they're adorable and they play a MASSIVE role in the world. What I couldn't find during my research is what I could do as an average person to help the situation. I'm no bee farmer, and I don't have the means to move out to the country and make a career out of it. I live in town, we have tons of flowers in planters/pots and in the garden, 3 cherry trees, 2 mountain ash and 2 apple trees which are all in bloom and the bees love them as well, and we have a zillion poor mans orchids but they haven't bloomed yet. But I feel as though there should be more a person could do. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

Yes and no, Yes you can do something buy trying to stop the use of pesticide in you city, you could contribute to http://www.e-changesolutions.com/Hive/PlanBEEDonate.html and try to save the bees, you could contribute to http://helpsavebees.posterous.com/ and you could try to start a campaign for people to donate all that they can to buy land and put a bee colony there '' but make sure if you do do this and buy land make sure there are no bees near yours and no field dusters in sight, also you put lots of sun flowers around.'' But you could plant sunflowers anyway because it is a major source of pollen for the bees. Also you could contribute to a local chemist or contact another one and convince them to try to find the cure for CCD. Also do not contribute to the kill the killer bees act, although they are agressive they pollinate 9 times the flowers that a average bee hive can also they are resistant from CCD and pesticides. Also they make 7 times the honey and are only agressive because we invade there space. Also you could think about my idea, my idea is that african bees are resistant from CCD and there is only 1 DNA strand that dose that and if we could find that single strand we could put it in the honey bees DNA and it would be resistant to with out making them agressive because it is the only one DNA strand that defends agennced CCD and not the strand that makes them agressive. I really hope this helped :)
