  The average starting salary for a vet is about $60,000/year. However, you have picked the most competitive and lowest paying specialty. The average salary for a marine vet is only about $75,000/year (that's not starting. That's with experience). Straight out of vet school you'll make next to nothing. You'd have to do 2 seperate 1 year internships after vet school and then a 3 year residency. During those 5 years you'd only be making about 20-30,000/year. Then you'd start at around $50,000/year. The residency positions are very competitive and after everything is done, there's no guarantee you'd get a job as a marine animal vet. Also, you'd probably end up owing at least $150,000 in student loans. More depending on where you went to school. If you're in it for the money, then veterinary medicine might not be for you. If you're not dead set on marine animal vets, then consider just a regular private practice clinician. You wouldn't have to do the internships and residencies and you'd start out making $60,000 and if you own your own clinic you could make $200,000/year. You'd still have the same amount of debt though, but the job possibilities are much greater.
