How would I become an animal behaviorist?

How to become an animal behaviorist. ?

  • What do I need to do to become an animal behaviorist. I have no idea where to go or start but I want to stay in California. How much do they make? And what kind of schooling do I need. Where exactly do I start. I'm most likely going to a community college for 2 years then transferring to a cal state. Answering these question s would help a lot. Thank you.

  • Answer:

In order to be sufficiently versed in ethology you need to have a postgraduate degree which focuses on the research techniques surrounding the animal behaviour. A background in biology for undergraduate and statistics for postgraduate would help. As for where to start, contact California State and enquire at their department of Zoology. Weird website layout they have, can't fathom it out... How much you receive depends on where you work and what position you hold, a lecturing position at a university will provide enough money for a middle class lifestyle. Occasional contract work will provide more funds. If you wish to become a researcher or lecturer a Master’s degree is the bare minimum, but to achieve a noted level of recognition or high income teaching position a doctorate will be necessary. Good luck with your studies...
