Black Mambas in the Masai Mara?

  • Hey! I'm going to the Masai Mara this summer, and I'd like to know a little about Black Mambas. Like, are they found there? How frequently are they seen and have they attacked humans? I frequent a lot of national parks, but this is the first time I'm going to Africa, and to be honest, I'm a bit paranoid about these snakes. Because they've sort of plagued my imagination since I was very young. Paranoid, I know, but, oh well. XD Thank you! :)

  • Answer:

Yes, the black mamba does occur in Masai Mara. However, it's my understanding that most of the people who are bitten encounter the snake in densely planted agricultural fields which you are unlikely to enter.

Yes, black mambas are found in Africa. According to a Nat geo programme I watched some time back they were voted the most dangerous snakes in the world in terms of length, personality, speed and venom. But surprisingly got only 2 out of 5 stars in the number of deaths caused by them. These snakes, like others attack only when they feel threatened. So don't worry.
