Would you please help save Australia's Koalas?
-
The Koala population is in critical trouble. Disease and loss of habitat have have worked to decimate the population of this most beloved of Australia's marsupials. This unique and beautiful animal is quite likely to disappear off the planet withing 20 years unless urgent action is taken to conserve their habitat.. Property development has decimated their habitat. They eat only certain types of Eucalyptus leaves and must feed for most of their waking hours in order to get enough nutrition to survive. The developers clear fell these trees to make room for housing. they leave no green corridors o allow the koalas to range over their feeding grounds safely. Hundreds are killed each month on busy roads as a result of this. Others are attacked by dogs and cats as they take refuge in suburban yards where the trees they need are now growing. There is little or no government regulation to prevent this. The Environment Minister Peter Garrett this week refused to consider listing them as endangered. he said he will look at the issue again next year. Recent surveys have shown that the koala population in Australia numbers between 40.00-80,000...with most experts agreeing that the lower figure is more likey. Please will you email the politicians listed below?. Let them know that the people of the world care about the fate of the koala...and that seeing this amazing creature is considered to be a highlight of many tourists visit.Possibly if they think that their tourism revenue will be adversely affected it may make them more eager to act. http://au.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=moz35&va=koalas&sz=all https://www.savethekoala.com/kc/joincampaign.html http://candobetter.org/taxonomy/term/327 The (Dis) Honourable Peter Garrett...Minister For The Environment, Heritage and The Arts http://www.petergarrett.com.au/send-enquiry.aspx The Equally (Dis) Honourable Martin Ferguson Minister for Tourism http://www.alp.org.au/people/email/ferguson_martin.php?mode=text

Answer:
I ws going to post something about this too, possibly one of my "last chance to see" questions. I don't understand why they refuse to list the koala as vulnerable. You have my support Eartha. Strongly worded e-mails sent. Steve Irwin must be spinning in his grave.
