How do I win back my ex boyfriend who I dumped who lives in another country?

• I met the love of my life while I was studying abroad in the Dominican Republic. I left after 6 months of dating and after a year of dating long distance I stupidly broke up with him, reasoning that it would never work out because we live in different countries and I didn't know if I would ever be able to move back to be with him again. He was devastated when we broke up. After we broke up, we continued talking on a regular basis and I consider him my best friend. He continued to tell me he loved me. In November, I told him I wanted to move back to the DR to be with him and he broke the news that he has a new girlfriend. He has been dating her since September and said he only started to date her because he thought I would never come back. Now, I finally realized that I need to be with him. He says that his new girlfriend was there for him when I dumped him and helped him through a hard period in his life so he can't just break up with her now. He said he has a place for both of us in his heart and he can't just leave her because I have changed my mind about what I want. How do I win him back and convince him that we should be together? Remember, this is long distance so I cannot see him.

  It took him three months to admit he was dating someone else, and according to him, she's at least as important to him as you...not something you want to hear from the "love of your life." Add to that the fact that you don't know if or when you'll get to see him again, and I think you need to face that your initial instincts were right: this isn't going to work out. Time to cut back on the correspondence to give yourself time to actually move on and make or renew some friendships of your own with people who can be there for you in person.
