Information on Kenya and Mauritius please?
-
OK - I was originally considering the Caribbean for my honeymoon next August but found out it is hurricane season in August. I've always wanted to go to Africa but thought it would be too hot (I don't cope well in intense heat) but then found out it is their winter at that time of year in Kenya and Mauritius, both of which appeal to me. 1.is Kenya safe to travel to now? 2. which would you recommend - Mauritius or a beach holiday in Kenya? (I don't want to do safari as a honeymoon, but maybe some other time) 3. Are these places as safe as any other average holiday destination in terms of becoming a victim of crime? 4. Even though it is their winter will it still be warm enough to sit on the beach? Thanks!

Answer:
You will find it hot in August, unless you happen to live in a tropical or sub-tropical country yourself. You'll still need your sun screen -- plenty of it! The trouble in Kenya seems to have died down and apparently didn't affect foreigners anyway. http://www.kenya-advisor.com/kenya-travel-advice.html I think that you would be safe in either destination, although Mauritius has always rated as less dangerous than mainland East Africa in terms of violent crime. Whichever you choose, you're going to have a lovely honeymoon. Congratulations!

I don't know too much about Mauritius, but I know about Kenya. Kenya has different climates omprised of hot and cold, depending on location. If you are traveling to central Kenya, which is the best of the best, Including Mombasa, It will be warm, but not to hot. It is close to the Ocean, so you can sun bath.

Beach holiday in Mauritius. Mauritius is winter now but Mauritius winter is far better than UK summer. We've just come back from our honeymoon there and wedding, it was very very hot. I am Mauritian. Anyway September is the end of Winter in Mauritius. If you go on the following website it give you up to date weather forecast. It is in French but if you don't understand look at the Temperature bit. Look under the Meteo section. It's a Mauritian Gazette. Hope it helps

I just got back from Kenya after staying there for 2 months. Everything is COMPLETELY SAFE. I even visited Eldoret where most of the violence took place. I never went to the beaches in Kenya, I stayed in the slum areas of Nairobi, Eldoret, Kitale, and the Masai Mara. But I recommend going to Mombasa in Kenya sometime in the months between September-December. Right now it's their rainy season. They don't have winter. They have a rainy season which is between May-August. So it'll be warm but you may get caught in rain everyday for about a half hour. And your pretty much safe from crime there. Kenyans are VERY respectful towards foreign visitors.
