Budget African Safari in Tanzania?

  • Hi there, I am planning (or trying to...) a safari in Kenya-Tanzania and would also like to spend a few days in Zanzibar. As I am traveling a lot, I want to keep the budget as low as possible. I took a look at African trails, oasis, africaguide (for which i did not find a lot of reviews). Pls, if anyone has done something like that, could you communicate meyour experiences? Also, please take into account that I would not like to be just drinking and partying, although fun is always needed. I kind of found at that Oasis overland is somehow more organized, but they seem not to offer the trip I'm interested in, and for only a couple of weeks. Please, any ideas, experiences, suggestions, more than welcome. tnx

I went 2 summers ago, and we went with Access 2 Tanzania for our safaris, and it was really good.We landed in Daar Salaam and went through Aruscha to 1 reserve I can't remember the name of right now. We then went to the Ngorongoro Crater, which was really cool. Then eventually we got down to the Serengeti. I don't know if you've been to Africa before or not, but if you haven't you WILL see tons of animals, especially on this route!Anyhow, check out Access 2 Tanzania. We also went to Zanzibar for a few days, we stayed at Matemwe Beach resort or something like that. It was a nice place and nearby you could go and register to go scuba diving, and if you haven't done that, I would recommend doing it you see lots of cool stuff. I think the diving was somewhere around 200- 300 dollars a person, it also depends how long you go for. I'm not sure about all of the details, because it was my mom who did all the booking not me, I'm only 15, so I don't know all of the prices. It was an amazing trip though. Also on Zanzibar we went to a tour of a spice plantation, and you wouldn't believe what some spice spices looked like in it's natural state. Oh, and we went and saw these monkeys, I cannot remember their name, but it's native to Tanzania, and I'm pretty sure that's on Zanzibar, and there's also a mangrove forest nearby that you can take a tour through, which I thought was really cool. So you may want to check those things out while your their, unless your the kind of person who would just like to relax on the beach :). if you have any specific questions, you could email me and I would be able to give more dtail, on say places we stayed.

hey we used access 2 tanzania as well! They were great. They werent really budget though. They were very reasonable, but not the cheapest you can get. We also used gametrackers in kenya and did an all camping safari. This was great as well and i know they could set up a zanzibar portion as well. There are tons of great companies out there though. Try going to Fodors forum or trip advisor. Thats how i planned my entire trip to kenya, rwanda, and tanzania!
