I need help identifying a coin?

  • Alright, so i found this coin, it looks like it is arabic, it has a big 1 on one side with arabic writing under the number. On the other side there is a big circle with what looks like a lion or dragon holding a torch or sword. there is a pot under the circle with a moon on the left and a sun on the right of it and at the top of the circle there is what looks like a wheel, the coin has the date of 1978 on it and the edges are smooth, it is also perfectly round. any help identifying this coin is greatly appreciated and i would like to know if there is any collector value to it. it is also in mint condition and in a sealed plastic bag like thing and has never been directly touched.

What a lucky find! To me it sounds like a Persian coin. The lion holding a saber in front of the sun was the symbol during the Pahlavi era If it had a crown above the lion but you didn't mention a crown. However, I did some searching around and could not find any Persian coins with a sun and a moon. Is there any way you could post a picture so that we could help you better?
