How to write a letter of invitation?

i have a friend that is trying to come from kano nigeria to texas how do i write a letter of invitation for him i don't know what has to be in it at all and how to word it i have known him for along time so i know this is not one of the scams going around....is there a site that gives the names of people on the scams so i can verify that i am wrong about it .......if he is legit how do i write this for a visa to visit texas

I am not sure about your situation per se and I would suggest you call the embassy, immigration or customs... But when I have had people entering Canada to visit me I simply wrote a letter with my name and address at the top, I identified the people coming by name and address on passport and briefly explained that they were visiting on my request and that they would reside with me for however long. That has always been enough to deal with border people. The way you worded this question it does sound like you have some insecurity about this person and I would encourage you to examine what is causing this insecurity. You are the best judge of this situation. As for welcoming people who may or may not have ill intent as the last responder suggested, well I find it silly. I have had a few friends from Nigeria, two of whom became Canadian Citizen and we as Canadians are lucky to include them. I am sorry I don't know a way to verify someone name on the internet like you suggested but maybe someone else will know.
