Is it safe to travel to Uganda right now?

  • I know that every place can be dangerous, but some places are more dangerous than others. I want to travel to Uganda for a Gorilla Safari. I just got back from a Safari in Kenya. I was scared to go there too. But I went and it was just find. However there was no civil war going on in Kenya. I was afraid for other reasons, but as soon as I arrived in Kenya I was no longer scared. I would not be afraid to go to Uganda if there was no civil war. The latest news from Uganda goes back to 2010..Not that long ago. The reason I am afraid is because of rebels.Anyone who knows anything about Uganda will know what I am talking about. They say that the rebels have been pushed out of Uganda and into DRC, Rwanda, Sudan etc. But the thing is, the rebels have been known to cross over into Uganda and cause problems, brutally murdering Uganas people and tourists. Another reason I am afraid is because I will be in the jungle trekking mountain Gorillas. The jungle is where it has said a lot of these rebels hide. And the jungles in Uganda are right next to Rwanda and the DRC. Im just scared now. More so than I was before going to Kenya. Any natives of Uganda or people that have recently traveled there have any insight for me? Thanks.

    go in march.....datll be the best time.i.e. after elections bcause der r tend to be problems during election times....or els its absolutely safe to be inuganda ...u jus need to be careful not to roam alone at nighttimes..u just need to be careful at nites.....

The rebels in Uganda are mainly in the Northern part of the country.Almost all parks in Uganda are in the south. For instance Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is in the South Western part of Uganda. The only concern for now may be if the elections scheduled for February 2011 turn violent, not that it could be you can monitor the news and decide.
