Is it safe to travel in palmas?

Is it safe for women to travel alone in Arab countries?

  • Please don't answer if you have not lived or traveled in any Arab-speaking countries (in particular, the countries on the Mediterranean such as North Africa and the Middle East). I want to travel to these countries; however, it won't be leisurely travel, but travel by foot, bus, train, etc. with little money. I will be researching and working on a book. These countries are ideal for me, though I am not sure if they are safe enough to travel alone in. I am twenty-one-years-old (will be twenty-two when I start traveling) and a girl. My grandparents came to the U.S. from Lebanon, so I look Lebanese; I just don't speak Arabic. I know that you, the good people of YA, can't predict whether I'll be safe or not, but if you've been to or lived in any of these countries, then please give me your opinion. Thanks :)

I don't know about Africa but I am from the Middle East so here is what I think. First off, it depends where your planning to travel to. Arab Gulf countries, Jordan, and Iran are safe for you to travel alone. You can't just travel to Saudi Arabia as a tourist. You need to be sponsored by friends or family but I don't know any specifics. If you want to travel to Israel, you have to keep in mind that most Middle Eastern countries would not allow an entry with an Israeli stamp in your passport. Isreal is not that safe anyway so I'd keep that one off the schedule.;-p

it depends on where you're going for example to lebanon i don't think thats a problem because i've been there myself. syria, Jordan, Egypt and other countries are okay except for saudi arabia and iraq i won't go there if i were you.

It's not something I would do. It's hardly safe for a woman to travel alone in America, let alone a country where women have no rights and they don't really care for Americans. I would think about this long and hard before doing it. And then think about it some more.

It highly depends on where you are planing to go but you will be safe in most areas. Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt will be generally safe to travel and they have relatively liberal societies. Saudi Arabia is out of the question because you will need to be accompanied by your brother, husband or father in order to get a visa. You must be extra vigilant when it comes to food and water because health codes are sometimes not enforced. transportation may be an issue in some areas and may be infrequent in many rural places. many drivers may not be able to speak English, but don't hesitate to ask someone to translate.
