Developed country:africa?

South Africa is pretty well developed as is Egypt.

I would say South Africa is already pretty well developed. It has some of the best engineering in the world.

Egypt is NOT developed, I lived there for a while, and in developed countries they don't slaughter animals next to the road. Every damn day on my way into the city from Maadi I had to travel trough a living butchery, its disgusting...

I have to disagree with you about there not being any developed countries in Africa. Our definitions of "developed" are probably different. We have to remember that just because another culture has different values and standards doesn't mean they need to conform. No country in the world is done developing - there is always room for improvement on some level.

I love my country, Botswana but I think its safe to say it wont be the first to join the 'the list'. Countries with high gross domestic product (GDP) per capita often fit the above description of a developed economy. Our GDP and income per capita is relatively high compared to other African countries mainly because of a high income and a small population. However our economy is still dominated by 'primary' industries which are diamond mining and beef. The 'secondary' and 'tertiary' industries have lagged behind and other countries like S.Africa and Namibia will probably beat us to it. If South Africa is not a developed country as your question implies then I think it will definitely be the first to be. That said, I do not think we will be the first but we will get there :-)

South Africa is quite developed, although classified as a "middle income" country. And Morocco is further along the road to being a developed country than Nigeria and Kenya.

Not that I've been to South Africa but it does look pretty developed, I'd say it's the most developed country in Africa....also I know Nigeria is getting there, it has Fast food stores such as Mcdonalds, but then again electricty is down there a lot...not sure about any of the other countries. I'd say egypt too cause it is a tourist destination cause of the pyramids. So I'd say Nigeria and Egypt will be next on the developed list.

Please note that Mauritius is not in the continent of Africa - it is in the Indian ocean and is a brilliant country
