What makes you eligible for disability?

If you receive the lowest amount of Social security disability paycheck every month and your spouse makes?

  • money, will it affect the amount you recieve ? the more he makes , the more thry take???

  • Answer:

If you are actually receiving Social Security disability instead of SSI it doesn't matter if your husband is a millionaire; it doesn't affect the amount of your Social Security benefit. However if you are getting SSI then any income received by you OR your husband will affect the amount of your SSI benefit. How to tell the difference? SSI is due on the 1st of the month. Social Security is due on the 3rd of the month or on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Wednesday of the month.

No. Your Social Security(SSDI) is based on the amount of work credits YOU put in. What your husband makes will not affect that.

SSI is calculated based upon household income, so any income brought in by others will affect it. SS disability is calculated solely upon the recipients work credits and percentage of disability. Other household income does not affect it. However, at TAX time, a portion of SS disability payments may be subject to income tax based upon household income. So it's not a bad idea to have SS withhold a percentage for federal tax so you don't end up owing money.

No. If you were on SSI, it would make a difference. But is sounds like you are on SSDI...which is much different than SSI. Your husbands income will not efeect your SSDI, but it will effect SSI.
