Which were the greatest royal dictatorships?

Which country represents Democratic dictatorships?

  • Answer:

What does that mean? Dictators are always re-elected with 99.99% of the vote. Some like Hitler are actually voted into office legitimately the first time.

A Democratic dictatorship is an oxymoron. There is no dictatorship in this world that is "democratic". Some may think they are, but they really aren't. All of them either supress opposition, or opress their minorities within their country. And there actually are no democracies in the world, they're Republics. Democracies are like Ancient Greece where all the townsfolk go and squabble--we don't do that do we? The people elect representatives to do that for them; hence a republic. The only country that could even come close to what you ask, and that's just in name alone, is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). They say they're Democratic, but they really aren't--they're considered to be Communist, and Kim Jong IL is definitely a dictator. EDIT: The United Kingdom is not a "Democratic Dictatorship", it's a Constitutional Monarchy, there's a difference and not just in name.

In a way, our British Parliament is a Democratic Dictatorship. Think about it, Parliament is the ultimate law making body in the country. A strong political aprty ,with tight discipline, can do whatever they please. As one famous phrase goes 'Parliament could make men women, and make women men' NB Yes, i know my country is a Constitutional Monarchy, but did you actually read what i said? The Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, has no powers that can be backed-up by law, our Parliament is completely sovereign. It has the power to do as it wishes. Being called somethign doesnt make it true, just look at the Peoples Republic...

The UK´s system is such in that the elections are decided by a very small number of swing voters (the overwhelming mjority voting the same way as they always do). When the ruling party gains office, it can more or less do as it pleases provided it has a landslide majority. And that majority opf MPs need not represent majoity of the public. But as no democratic system is a perfect reflection of the electorate so perhaps there is no great gain to changing the system.
