Why Do Republicans Refuse To End Tax Breaks For Big Oil Companies?

• Obama pushed to end tax breaks for oil companies. Republicans said no way Mr. Democrat; oil companies need tax breaks. Oil companies are charging the consumer as much as the consumer can bear regardless of any tax break that oil companies receive from the IRS. The only thing holding down oil prices is the competition by electricity and natural gas. Tax breaks for oil companies do nothing for you the consumer. America is the third largest oil producer in the world at this time. Much of it is sold and exported to nations overseas. Our large oil production does not keep costs down for us (as you have all noticed at the pump and when heating your home). Instead it is simply sold to the highest bidder anywhere in the world. So why do republicans insist on giving oil companies tax breaks when the average American has NO benefit from it?

In 1969 I was on an airline between Stavanger and London I asked an executive of Phillips Petroleum why they drilled for oil in Norway when before they could start drilling the Norwegian Government had to own 51% of the shares in the Norwegian venture and they taxed them 80% on the profits on their 49%? The answer was that it was still worth it. Norway taxed them instead of giving them tax breaks, Norway only spend 4% of their annual oil revenues, the rest is invested all over the world. Now every Norwegian child born is a millionaire; how does that compare with giving oil companies tax breaks? Norway has a different system of government; but some morons try and tell me that things are different in countries with smaller populations.
