What are some environmental benefits of Wind Energy?

Wind Turbine - should there be an independent review ?

  • It is widely claimed, with some real substance, that Wind turbine eco friendly energy is a scam and produces energy of little significance. Yet many people, especially politicians, have invested and are raking in millions of pounds. Do you thinks this is the case ? Do you believe such means of producing electricity really benefits society ? Do you think there should be an Independent body to thoroughly scrutinise what is really going on?

  • Answer:

I know a number of people who work in the energy industry, and they all say that if it wasn't such a tragic waste of money, the government's reliance on wind power would be hilarious. Wind turbines have to be turned off in high winds, actually use energy when they are not turning, and as someone who had a summer's holiday ruined by them, are awfully noisy! On top of which, to create all the energy we needed, the entire country would have to be covered in turbines. I understand that governments want to be seen to be 'green', and this is a very visual way of showing that. But ultimately, from what I understand from those I know in this industry, the lack of investment in hydrogen power is odd. This is something that has been shown as possible on a small scale in countries like the USA, the only by-product is water, and takes up no more space than current power stations. An independent review would cost lots of money and probably come to the same conclusion as ordinary people and a bit of common sense.

The wind turbine is one of the most efficient ways to generate renewable energy, our government should be doing whatever it can to promote it.

Clearly there is a case for them in some remote communities , but as a base load / source of electricity at a flick of a switch ,they are useless. No one in their right mind ,therefore, would depend on them for more than a tiny fraction of their electrical power needs. The simple brutal fact is that nuclear energy will have to provide a very significant portion of our electrical needs for decades to come .And that is the problem , because the Greens and LIberals will just not accept this. Instead , they cling to the fantasy that only the green technologies and solutions that they find acceptable , can save us .They are blinkered fools ,and their stupidity will kill many of us . Thanks to them , we now face the probability that within 12 years, power cuts will have become a part of normal daily life in the UK -- so god help us in bad winters.

Myrtel.. I think we have covered the so called technology on energy producing Wind Turbines. We the consumers of this necessary supply, know that the Wind farms were really a non starter. However when politicians see a good earner, knowing that we have little control over these matters, they will as always, declare that they know best. Now when you mention an independent review, I ask myself, who would be suitable at all, to take on board the feelings of us the consumer and Tax Payers. You know as well as I do, we have a number of "Protectors" watching out in order that we receive a fair deal. Have you had any benefit from these government controlled "Watch dogs" ? From what I have been given to understand, in order to get the power supply from these monsters, they need to cover the whole land mass and when you compare the cost of building them,I would say we will never recover from any recession. Someone once said on a TV interview that the winds required to turn these Wind farms is never a guarantee and in many places completely a waste of money because of the wind speeds. Of course the greatest supporters the government can muster, are those who think that other sources of generating power will cause a melt down of what nature has provided since time began. Have a nice day. Its just my opinion, that's all.

The wind turbine is better then any other electricity producing plant in the UK, apart maybe from wave. We should invest in wind turbines as it is the only definite source of energy we have. Having large amounts of wind turbines means we don't have to rely on other countries for oil and gas etc. Yes the government should be pushing it forward, goo for them.
