Why Do Republicans Refuse To End Tax Breaks For Big Oil Companies?

  • Obama pushed to end tax breaks for oil companies. Republicans said no way Mr. Democrat; oil companies need tax breaks. Oil companies are charging the consumer as much as the consumer can bear regardless of any tax break that oil companies receive from the IRS. The only thing holding down oil prices is the competition by electricity and natural gas. Tax breaks for oil companies do nothing for you the consumer. America is the third largest oil producer in the world at this time. Much of it is sold and exported to nations overseas. Our large oil production does not keep costs down for us (as you have all noticed at the pump and when heating your home). Instead it is simply sold to the highest bidder anywhere in the world. So why do republicans insist on giving oil companies tax breaks when the average American has NO benefit from it?

    Why didn't 0bama and the democrat supermajority end tax breaks for big oil? Democrats had two years of total control. Two years... Yeah...I've heard of a "veto." Why would 0bama veto a bill ending subsidies for big oil? Democrats support it....right?

I'm not sure what rules or tax-breaks that are in force for especially for the Oil Industry that are not available to any other Industry? If there are could you provide a link for my education? As far as I can find, they Fill Out a Corporate Tax Form Just like any other corporation. They deduct losses from profit, the can deduct depreciation on equipment, etc, like that. Where is the Welfare? Did they Receive a Cash Bailout like the Auto Industry? Not to my knowledge. Did the Government Reduce lending rates and force them to loan money to unqualified borrowers like they did to the Housing Finance Industry in the 90's? Nope. Did the Oil Industry receive 100's of Billions in Stimulus like ALL the other Energy Industries and many other Industries? Nope, none of that happened and yet you all keep Harping on the how much WE the US Government Benefit the Oil Industry and without our subsidies they'd be out of business. It is just Mindless, Rhetoric Repeated over and over to stir up Passion in the Left and to distract from the Real Wastes and Expenses. Did you know that Oil Companies Pay ROYALTIES on every barrel of oil from PUBLIC Land? 12% onshore and 18% offshore. There is NO Deductions from this, it comes off the Top. Did you know that Harry Reids Gold Mining INDUSTRY does NOT Pay Royalties? That he has Held up 2 different bills from the House in the last 5 years from Going to a VOTE to charge Gold Mines a 4% and 8% Royalty on GOLD TAKEN FROM PUBLIC LANDS? There is your Left Wing Bias. They make Harry Reid Rich, and get him re-elected, and even though Gold MINING Industry it CHEATING THE POOR, he does nothing to protect the Impoverished and Down-Trodden. I'm so tired of the Dishonesty and Hypocrisy of BOTH Sides. Why can't you and I come together to find some Real Solutions to our Problems, instead of Bickering that each other is WRONG?

They did agree but they also wanted to end the 8 billion in green subsides so the Democrats shelved it.
