Taxation without Representation..Oh Really!?

  • Let me ask you right now are you in favor of paying taxes and have NO say in government? Well that's exactly what's been going on for years. Teenagers who pay an estimated 8 BILLION in taxes each year have NO say to where and what is done with THEIR money. Some will say it's only for a few years etc..but it the principle that our nation was founded on "Taxation without a SAY" Some will say: well they use the roads, schools etc..IT'S about the principle here and it's all about "TAXATION without RESPRESENTATION" Some of these teenagers work to help support their families and they have NO say about the money they give blindly to the government. Tell me where I'm wrong.

You are absolutely right. I believe that if something doesn't happen in either '06 or '08 there will be a rebellion in America. We are not above it, as we have had a revolution before.

Well, when I was a teenager I didn't make enough income to be taxed, so I always got my money back. I didn't start paying taxes until I was old enough to vote. Probably older, but I don't keep records that far back.

Yes, teens usually recoup their income taxes when they file their tax returns, but what about sales tax? Teens pay a much higher percentage of their income on sales taxes than income taxes. Sales tax are not eligible for tax refunds. However, the feasibility of enacting a sales tax that exempts people under 18 would be unworkable. Can you imagine having to show an ID to prove you're under 18 when you buy stuff? Everyone would have their kids do all the shopping!

Well considering that most tax paying adults don't have much say in the government's actions, it's business as usual for most countries. Just think, did Clinton get indicted for the S&L scandal and that Monica disgrace? Is Bush going to get out of Iraq, only to invade Iran? Does anyone have any "true representation" in the governement? Sure citizens get to vote on minor things. But what about the real issues that count? Representation is a phantom. It barely exists like it did back 200 odd years ago. And from the looks of it, it is going to vanish all together in the next 10 years or so.
