Can international human rights lawyers work for the United Nations?

Should I work for the United Nations, or the State Departmen?

• I'm currently in College and Majoring in Political Science (or maybe i'll change my mind to International Relations). I speak 5 languages (German, Farsi, French, Spanish and English) and therefore i'd like to have a career in the International Political Field. I'd like to Help a lot of people around the world and become some sort of an internatioAdvocateocat (stop global hunger, fight for people's freedom and women's rights in Middle Eastern Countries, etc). SO since i have all of these things planned for my future, where do i Start?! I believe that i should finish school, then sign up for an internship so i can build my experience, then go from there. I just dont know whether i should choose the UN or St. Dep. If anyone has good advice for me, then I'm ready to listen :) Oh and Ps. if you know of any good internships, please let me know! :)

  In order to work for the UN you have to at least have an MA ( you also have to be a grad student to get an internship) and getting a job at the State Dept. is very competitive, especially the political/diplomat track, plus the State Dept. isn't really an advocate agency, what is in the best interest of America is all that's important. Based on what you want to do an NGO (non governmental organization) like Amnesty International is more up your alley; I would try to get an internship with an international non-profit.
