Who owns or operates Snopes.com?
-
Snopes and/or Truth or Fiction are generally recognized as being the go to site(s) to determine if information contained in an e-mail is factual or not. Who owns and/or operates either of these two sites? How can I be certain that the information contained on either of these sites are factual and not some sort of misrepresentation?

Answer:
Snopes is run by Barbara and David Mikkelson, a California couple who met on the alt.folklore.urban newsgroup. They are thoroughly apolitical, and refuse any ads that might be seen as having a bias.

The Mikkelsons ALWAYS list references that back up their material, so if you doubt their facts, check the references. They're very good at what they do, and I'm glad they remain apolitical. That must be really difficult in this political environment.
