Question about the summer olympics?

To those who attended a Summer Olympics: Was it worth it?

• I'm thinking about going to the Summer Olympics in London in 2012. (No, not as an athlete.) Here's my question to those of you who have gone: Was it worth it? What event(s) did you enjoy the most? What event(s) do you wish you'd have seen? Please let me know if you were a local (lived in Vancouver this year, in Sydney in 2000, etc.)

  I went to Vancouver this year. It was worth it a hundred fold. As a Canadian it was definitley a very special experienc.e.. Canada won the most gold medals (actually broke an Olympic record for it), so that was great. Lots of patriotism shown... great cameraderie int he streets... AMAZING street parties that went on all night. Plus Vancouver is pretty warm by Canadian standards... never snowed once, weather was well above 0C. I'm not a local from Vancouver (I'm from Calgary). The locals I knew there were mixed aobut it. Some saw it as a financial drain for short termed gain... others just marvelled in the experience. But I would recommend going to an Olympics... it's absolutley incredible (especially if you are from the host nation). But, even if you're not, it's neat to meet people from al lover the world gathering in one place. I know in Vancouver it was extremely humbling to take a look at False Creek from the Science Centre.... the world has gathered in one place and in you're in the middle of it. It's a feeling I wish everyone could have/share. So, to directly answer your questions now haha. 1) It was definitley worth it 2) I enjoyed Men's hockey the most 3) I wish I saw speed skating (I stayed across the street from the venue but never got in)
