How much will it cost to travel the world for a year?

• Sample Routing: Dublin-Rio de Janeiro-overland-Buenos Aires-Quito-Lima-Santiago-Auckland-Sydne… Kong-Mumbai-Dubai-Dublin On top of this I'll be travelling around each location a good bit more than what's listed. Won't be staying anywhere fancy, hostels all the way! Flights will cost around €4000

  One of my friends traveled to Brazil, Ecuador, India, and Thailand from Europe all on one trip for 6 months and said it cost about €10,000 and that he never had to worry about money. Personally, I think it depends more on where you stay the longest. Most of South America and India will be dirt cheap compared to Sydney or especially Hong Kong, which is expensive. But if you stay in hostels/campsites, eat from supermarkets, travel by bus when you can etc. then you should be able to get it done for no more than €10,000 on top of flights, which works out to €27 per day, more than enough. If you're willing to rough it a little more then €7000 which works out to €20 per day is also pretty doable.
