What do you think defines an adventure?

This is just for my own curiosity. What makes an adventure and adventure? What truly defines it?
Answer:

Well, of course, this will mean different things to different people. I don't think "adventure" always has to be about extreme sports or hiking in the wilderness. My sort of adventure was going to China all by myself with no tour guide, using my own basic Mandarin to get by. I really learned a lot about the people and the culture that way and to me, experiencing life like the locals and not like a rich tourist, is a great adventure.

For me an adventure is when you go out of the ordinary, or try new things. For example try doing risky stuff like sky diving, or anything that is fun to you.
