What are some good unique places to visit in Europe?

What are good places to visit in Eastern Europe?

  • I am working up an itinerary and was thinking of Rumania, Bulgaria, Greece, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. Is Rumania good for architecture? What about vineyard tours, fishing and boating on the Black sea? Also, is it worth it to visit Istanbul for a taste of the East?

  • Answer:

I guess you should start in Prague (in the Czech Republic) and then continue through Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. In Romania you can find all sorts of structures: Roman Empire ruins , medieval castles and towns, interesting Eastern Orthodox monasteries, monumental late 19th century buildings as well as bleak industrial areas, Communist-era cities or shiny new skyscrapers. There are great vineyard tours in Hungary, for fishing I'd recommend again Romania (in the Carpathian mountains and in the Danube Delta), as for the Black Sea stuff you might want to check out Bulgaria. If you're in the region it would be wrong not see Istanbul too.
