How to get from barcelona to la rochelle?

  • in september i am going to barcelona for a few days, and then need to get to la rochelle... i would like to get there in one day as i don't want to shorten my stay in la rochelle. and of course the cheaper the better! :) any ideas? not sure whether bus or train would be better, or a combination of the two?

    It takes 12 to 16 hours on te trains to get fom Barcelona to La Rochelle. The best option may be to take the train at 4:42 pm from Barcelona Sants station to Montpellier Saint-Roch. You'll have a three hour layover there for the night train to La Rochelle which you can use for dinner. The night train leaves at 9 minutes after midnight and arrives at 7:07 am. The advantages are that this has the fewest required train changes, you'll be using sleeping time for travel, and will save the cost of a hotel for the night. http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml
